How to Check if a Phone Is Original

Seven checks before you pay.

  1. Check the IMEI. Dial *#06# and SMS the number to 1555. The reply should name the same model.
  2. Match the box. The IMEI and model number on the box should match the phone’s Settings > About phone.
  3. Check storage in Settings. Fakes often claim more storage than they have.
  4. Samsung: open Settings > About phone and check the model number starts with SM-. Samsung Members and Galaxy Store should be installed and open normally.
  5. iPhone: open Settings > General > About and check the serial number on Apple’s coverage-check website.
  6. Price. A new phone far below the going price is a warning sign.
  7. Buy from a seller who shows the warranty. Every Phonetab device is brand new, sealed and covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
